Hi Russell, > Why not? Can't the same client code talk to both MySQL and MariaDB?
Maybe.. There are many C++ programs for the DB so I am not sure whether that is feasible. They might have even joins between the DBs. That is MySQL 5.5 says something about the age of the apps using it... > Could you setup a test version of the database server after copying a snapshot > to somewhere with equivalent hardware and run a test dump to find out how long > it takes? That's probably the way I am heading. I vaguely remember having used some Percona Tools but that was between old versions "close to each other", 5.5 to 5.6, I think. The gap to MariaDB 1011 is quite wide..
