They do, and it sometimes happens like that.

It would be much easier for us, however, if you tell us what your
problem is :)

Evidently your LVS doesn't work - but *how* doesn't it work? What
happens when you try to connect to the VIP - do you see requests on the
director, realserver? Do you see responses? Does the realservers log
anything?

In your case "the right direction" is:

Client
  VIP
    Director
      Realserver
    Director
  VIP
Client

Masquerading takes place on the way out at the Director/VIP stage.
