the manual fix i found were:

cd /usr/share/pixmaps/
sudo cp firefox-3.0.png firefox3.png
cd /usr/share/applications
sudo cp firefox.desktop firefox3.desktop
sudo mousepad firefox3.desktop
echo - or sudo gedit firefox3.desktop , or nano, or any wished txt editor...

and replace the
Icon=firefox-3.0
to
Icon=firefox3

and so, the file used in the lxpanel would be firefox3.desktop instead
- using this method on using a copied .desktop instead of using the
original .desktop directly can avoid destroying this process in the
next ubuntu update (it happened to me once, as you all can imagine...)

all this worked on me
since i don't know all about the firefox licence on how do this kind
of patch would affect it

my another suggestion would be lxpanel having some kind of .desktop
editor (or fixer) which help us to fix these things without having to
go to the terminal, or browse and copy these files as super-user...
