I suggest "always use the latest 2.X version auf gtk+/glib"
 
All 2.X releases are backward compatible. They all use the same
SONAME.  There is no need to stick with buggy outdated releases.

If distros provide outdated versions of GTK+, they most likely will
provide outdated versions of LXDE.
