As far as I can tell, it's crashing your session when you try to disable
the use of a background image.

I have the same problem on my old Celeron but I never looked into it
further because whatever mix of LXDE components I'm running on my main
machine (Gentoo) doesn't have that problem.

(I prefer "innovation" to be opt-in rather than opt-out, so I only use
Ubuntu-derived distros as testing targets.)
