Honestly, LXDM is a perfect display manager for LXDE.

I use lighdm/gtk-greeter because I use Fedora/Xfce and it's the default DM for
Xfce here and I help debug it. But LXDM is much lighter and just works (while
lightdm still has many bugs).

Do you have an old test computer, pcman?
IMO you should develop LXDE based on some decent distributions like Debian sid
(which BTW still doesn't have a LXDM package AFAIK) or Arch. Both are
compatible with LXDE's goals.

But Ubuntu? That distro has its goals and they're definitely not compatible
with LXDE's goals. Plus the attitude of many community people that contribute
with it is to not care at all about really debugging apps for all the open
source community and instead hack around its self-inflicted bugs (not to
mention the "as long as people think that Ubuntu works/'is a lot
translated'/'insert any other feature' and is 'better'/'less Linux' than the
rest then it's all fine" - even if that's a complete lie and the facts are much
on the contrary of those statements). Side-effect of that brainwashing
marketing Canonical used for so long.

I realise and expect that that attitude has waned some, after all one can't
sustain a lie for much long, but still I'm mentioning that because it was
deliberately made to confound.

Of course you can use whatever distro you like. But for the sake of LXDE's
health that's my suggestion. Develop it based on a user case of an older
machine + simple underlying system.

Hello,Last year I worked on a new GUI greeter for LightDM display manager. The
work was not finished at that time due to one limitation of LightDM.Since the
latest LightDM provides a new API for what I need and I got little free time
this afternoon, I finished it today.

The screenshot is
here:http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pzVKVDOIYcQ/TNuIGKArGbI/AAAAAAAAFF4/eXHZ5RCL8Lc/s1600/LightDM+Industrial.png

And the source is in git
repo.http://lxde.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=lxde/ldm-gtk-builder-greeter;a=summary

It requires LightDM >= 1.0.0 and can work nicely with the latest LightDM
shipped with Lubuntu 12.10.
After installation, edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and set
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-builder-greeter

then it's done.
I think it's the right time to have a formal release for it.
Please give it some test and help translation. If there are no big problems, I'd
suggest making a new release.

Thanks!
