A quite useful thing would be to build Linux binaries so that they
could be usable on BSD (i.e. abstracting the OS-specific details in a
way which is applicable at run time, instead of compile time).

This might possibly reduce the need for BSD-specific development
environments and make the maintenance easier (I am otherwise usually
building Linux-ABI programs to run the same binary on both Linux and
*BSD whenever possible).
