Hi Thanks for bringing this up. CCing Ken Moore as the conversation might be more productive with him aware of it :-)
We weren't approach at any point by these guys and I didn't actually know this project existed until now. FreeBSD has not been a focus simply because we haven't had developers other than Alexandr working on it. Open source always more of an issue of "do" rather than "will". As PCMan said though, we are linux-friendly not linux-centric and if good ports to BSDs show up we will definitely include them. I don't see alternate desktop environments springing up as being an issue though. I think it's great that more DEs are starting to choose Qt rather than GTK and I also think choice is always great to have, especially a choice of desktops. There is a lot we can share, though. I've always liked the original idea of the QtDesktop project (now dead) and have been quietly trying to revive it. Lately I have been toying with a QtDesktop organization on Github (https://github.com/QtDesktop), where basic Qt DE software can be hosted. It is still an experiment, but long term I am hoping this can put some projects in the spotlight and avoid people from reinventing the wheel. Nobody really benefits from eighteen slightly different kinds of simple image editor or viewer for example, it's very much a case of "the more, the poorer" as projects get abandoned. PCMan and I have been talking about writing some desktop config tools in Qt outside of LXQt, potentially making them more accessible to developers eg with PyQt. That's the sort of software you would see in that org. If some people have usable generic Qt software at their disposal which they believe could use the QtDesktop umbrella, please let me know. All that said, I'm sure we would all welcome contributions from the PC-BSD guys. You mention the license being an issue though but I'm not sure what can be done about that. Some parts of LXQt are LGPL though, maybe those can still be useful. I find fights over the different kinds of open source licenses very counter-productive. The very ideals that encourage us to share are philosophically preventing us from doing so - a bit silly, don't you think? J.
