Some more recent packages are in wheezy-backports: lxappearance, openbox, pcmanfm, maybe some others (I did just a quick search). There will be no updates in the normal repositories for Debian 7, only in backports. Same will apply for Debian 8 Jessie, because it is in feature freeze. > I am a computer user of the level of competence where I need to have > packages that can be installed and managed by a package manager, and, > I am not sufficiently adept, to build packages. To get the more recent packages from the backports:
* add the backports repository like su nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/wheezy-backports.list paste this line in that text editor: deb http://http.debian.net/debian wheezy-backports main and save with CTRL+O, then quit with CTRL+X * update the APT database with apt-get update * install the packages you want, e.g. apt-get -t wheezy-backports install openbox pcmanfm lxappearance That should point you the right way. > Thank you in anticipation, for your assistance. > Best regards, Jörn ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Download BIRT iHub F-Type - The Free Enterprise-Grade BIRT Server from Actuate!
