I use fcitx in lxqt everyday and can confirm that it works.
You probably have to set proper environment variables.
GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
Make sure you have both of them set.
Besides, you have to install the ui module of fcitx.
