| Subject: [Lynx-dev] [lynx.isc.org] You are apparently blocking Tor users (and
others), probably damaging reputation
|

whose reputation?

Tor users are anonymous, and such have no reputation to discuss.

| The Lynx download website (lynx.isc.org) is famous for banning many
| IP
| address from downloading releases [1].

actually, the source given doesn't support the statement (it is a random
comment).

| If you tried to get a safe copy of your great software, for example,
| from Iran, the most straightforward way is to do with Tor [2]:
|
| $ torsocks curl -LO
| http://lynx.isc.org/current/lynx2.8.8rel.2.tar.bz2
|
| However, this would result in:
| curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 403 Forbidden

lynx.isc.org blocks IP-addresses which appear in the logs for (a) break-in
attempts,
and (b) attempted DOS. On rare occasions, a user reports a problem with this,
and on investigation his/her address is unblocked.

Odds are, a Tor user was being a nuisance (and if they had reputation, it would
be lessened).
