Here is what I see with a slightly newer lynx:

        % lynx --version
        Lynx Version 2.8.9dev.7 (18 Dec 2015)
        libwww-FM 2.14, ncurses 5.9.20130511
        Built on linux-gnu (Dec 18 2015 19:34:27).
        ....

Now try both http and https protocols:

        % lynx http://www.xing.com
        [blank screen with
        HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
        at the bottom
        ]

        % lynx https://www.xing.com
        [blank screen with
                Alert!: This client does not contain support for HTTPS URLs.
        at the bottom
        ]

In the second case, after a couple of seconds, lynx terminates,
leaving the "Alert!:...." text on the terminal screen.
