running lynx in an UTF-8 term and display charset utf-8 I can see some big problems.
Try to visit: http://directory.google.com/Top/World/Chinese_Simplified/ you the this warning and the site isn't displayed: "Alert!: gb2312"
or visit this site:

which is iso-2022-jp and which looks quite weird ... looks like translating from some cjk charsets to UTF-8 is a bit of a problem.
