thanks, but no, that changes it everywhere. I want to have blocks of
standards, then another block of standard. Roughly the way novels
are laid out.
I think the solution would be to define a FirstStandard style, which
sets the next paragraph to standard with no gap, but i don't see how to
avoid that gap.
Or a "skip" style that is empty but causes a skip, or perhaps a 0 size
hard space.
oh, and those settolength commands wereexactly what I needed. I'd
misread them as beeing only usable in setting box sizes.
