We are currently building a prototype for next year's project and I
surprisingly (*cough* ;-)) decided to switch our file format to something
'XMLish'. Naturally I had to write some very rudimentary parser.
It doesn't handle any fancy stuff yet (and probably won't, since we do
not need full XML support), but maybe it could serve as a base for LyX.

I put it on

  http://mathematik.htwm.de/Software/LyX/element.h and element.cc

if anybody is interested, take it, otherwise leave it. I probably won't
try to get it into LyX myself.
