This is what I meant, and .../personal seems appropriate. Calling it a
branch may be wrong since branch usually is a copy of trunk. In this
case, it is a standalone installer tree.

Ok, placing in a separate tree makes more sense. That tree can then either be placed under <repository>/lyx-devel/trunk/.. (which I assume you don't like), or directly under <repository>/. I don't think placing it under <repository>/lyx-devel/branches/personal is a good choice since the installer might very well need it's own branches...

I'm not sure what the drawbacks/advantages! would be for placing the installer directly under <repository>/. One possible advantage/drawback is that it might be easier to do more frequent releases of the installer. This might good as packages that the installer depends on are likely to be released much more frequently compared to LyX.
