This means that one would have to first set the font properties of a
chunk of text; then, when he is happy, he will have to place the
cursor where the changed style is and click "Copy Style". This also
means that most of the time he won't have to launch the character
dialog again.
This would be by the way similar to what OO and MSWord are doing. Except
that our copied style would stay in memory.
