    Maybe 'dvips -i' would be enough for step 2), so dviselect would not
be needed under windows? It's not my idea, though.

    Another thing: I don't want to be pessimistic about it, but what if
step 1) fails (for example, because of a single 'failing' inset - or
multiple ones)?
