I do not think it's worth it. Other changes (from 2.4.4 to 2.4.5)

OK. What is the process to create the announcement text? I noticed
that the ANNOUNCE file is still for 2.4.4, and status.24x is up to
date, but does not contain the top most part of ANNOUNCE (where the
python compatibility change should go IMHO).

I usually do that when preparing the release, but if you want to write
something now about this particular issue, that'll give me a head start.
