Harcoding SUBSCRIPT SUPERSCRIPT to output ^ and _ in text mode is not better than hardcoding them in math as we had before. Maybe these functions could be changed in text to insert the character they have been bound to, but this is really hackish. I do not know what the right solution is, but we have to find one... JMarc
