I am aware of that difference. But mathed is used differently, having to reverse font changes after a single char in 90% of the cases is annoying. When I think more about it: What about having a new LFUN 'math-font <somename> <sticky>'. If sticky is 1, the font changes are 'permanent', if not they are one-shot. There are always troubles with the 'math-mode' overloading. Maybe we should really get rid of it _now_. math-mode should toggle math mode, nothing else, especially nothing font-related.
