No ! Default to use AMS Math. Have no autodetect. That covers *all*
bases with maximum usability and minimum complexity.

There is only failing case with such a system: a user who knows how to
define a macro that is also in AMS math, but does not know how to
deselect a checkbox in the document menu. This set is vanishingly small
and not worth concerning ourselves with IMHO
