No, it's not a "small-is-beautiful" issue! My policy was: make dialogs as small as possible, and add the proper resize/gravity, so that people like you still get a nice dialog after resize. I am unhappy with your bigger default design, because I'm stuck with it (somehow resizing it to smaller size is not permitted, why?), whereas you can simply resize my small design to the size you like! That's not fair.... :(. BTW: Xforms remembers the resize, within the same LyX session that is.
