With this patch I can no longer insert russian chars.
(I _am_ entering some cyrillic chars, but not the wanted ones.
E.g. entering Cyrillic_a (according `xev`) I get Cyrillic_TSE displayed.)
For latin1 and latin2 this seems to work.
