That's what I meant. In the case of LyX, doing it visually and
maintaining near-WYSIWYG (i.e., keeping up with LaTeX) is pretty complex.

Indeed. But would you call the mathed UI 'bad'? Come on! Compare with
Word's formula editor any day.
