Unless you've made a typo, your version is 4+ years old. It's rude^H^H^H^Hunreasonable (unless you're talking about M$ that is :) to say "I'm using a 4 year old version, there's this bug I'm seeing, and by the way I doubt you've fixed it yet". Please use the current version (1.3.4) and then use the bug reporting system to report the bug if it's still there. Anyway, I don't think that you need to use \mag, won't just changing the font size work well enough? IIRC in your case using \mag will use fonts that are not shaped correctly and won't be quite legible for their final on-paper size - it kind of defeats the purpose of using TeX for the job.
