Video driver for jpeg files

Dear Lyx people,

I am writing a paper in Lyx and wanted to insert some graphs. I use 
graphs in the gnumeric spreadsheet. So I tried *.svg files, but although 
they used to load into Lyx without difficulty, this time it could not 
format them. So I switched the format to *jpg and that worked, but I 
cannot convert the paper to PDF because it cannot format *.jpg files.

Please let me know what video format works or whether any of the video 
drivers works with jpg.
