After some weeks' use of LyX, I find that my biggest annoyance is with
Find and Replace. There are three problems:
1. No incremental search
2. No regular expressions
3. You can't seem to express characters you can't type on the keyboard, so
you can't search for ellipsis (\dots) or bits of math as you can in a text
editor.
Are there plans to address these deficiencies?
It seems to me that LyX is still quite heavily oriented to a
wordprocessor style of editing, whereas it should have more heavy-duty
text editing features. The logical structure of text-editing features with
ideas such as global replace and regular expressions seems to fit better
with WYSIWYM than the piecemeal approach of wordprocessors, which
necessitates lots of repetitive fiddling.
