Hello all.
This is my first posting to this useful list. I've been lurking for a few
weeks and I've used the archives extensively. Lyx is the best thing I've
found yet for writing scientific documents. Thanks to all the developers
and the helpful members of this list!
Right now, I've got 1.0.0pre6 and klyx installed on a Debian (slink:
pre2.1) system. I compiled Lyx myself, and the version of Klyx claims to
be 0.9.9. Anyway, my most important document is my thesis. I've managed to
painstakingly implement the required formatting of my university by
embedding red latex commands in the early sections. The anomaly is that
Lyx 1.0.0pre compiles my file without error whereas Klyx chokes near a
\flushleft block and \vspace command. Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you
have noticed the differences in using Lyx vs. Klyx at this time for your
critical documents. (Klyx may find further errors as well, but I'm unable
to get past the first ones. Also, Klyx has done an excellent job on small
papers and documents such as a journal article that I am writing. I find
the QT interface to be preferable to xforms, although xforms on a fast
machine is nice.)
Thanks. Syrus.
P.S. W.r.t. scalable fonts under Lyx, I just got xfstt (true-type font
server) working under X and both Lyx and Klyx look beautiful using Times
New Roman, Arial, and Courier New.
