The new LyX 1.0.0 compiles well even in HP-UX, great!
It also works much better than 0.12.0 in so many ways, for example it
opens include-file sub-documents automatically when you select View DVI
in the main document. Old version would only hang up in that case.
Also I haven't had no hanging gs-processes anymore. So great work from
the LyX-team!
Still I managed to find one feature in the six special character
buttons of the math panel. Before (in 0.12.0) they were toggles, second
pressing hides the special character selection panel. Perhaps this is
the action even now, but it cannot be used as the special character
menus appear right on top of the math panel. Moreover, this panel
cannot be moved at least in fvwm95 in HP-UX and Afterstep-1.6.6 in
Linux (the two ones). After a while I found out that pressing the
famous any key would make the special charater menu disappear without
any characters being selected. But all users may not find that so
easily.
Still most of the time the user does not remember under which submenu
the wanted special character lies and thus easily browsable special
charater menus would be nice. Perhaps the new action works better with
low resolution but I have never used Linux in a smaller resolution than
1024x768 and I think there is quite a lot of users like this. So maybe
if this action was intentional it would be nicer if it were selectable
in a flag in the lyxrc-file. And the default were the old 0.12 way.
Unfortunately I could not test any pre-versions as LyX is already in
very heavy use and updating the program very often is not preferred. In our
laboratory almost all theses, journal and conference papers are written
with LyX and hopefully the rest of the few Windows-idiots will follow
now that LyX 1.0.0 is out.
