Seems to me that this (macroprogramming) functionaly exists in LyX,
but only in math mode: the math macro mechanism works exactly
this way.

I understood that extension to normal text was in the todo list.

You may do it using LaTeX, of course, but the workaround
is no good: you would like to have the macro in the toolbar
if you use it often.
