I have been writing a book using Lyx, having converted most of it from a
previous book processor (OpenWrite under NeXTStep) that was too buggy to do
the job (apart from the bugs, OpenWrite was excellent). There are about 600
pages, with an average of 2 EPS figures per page. I have just joined the
news list, and have some questions I wonder if anyone knows the ansers to. I
couldn't find these on the FAQs and other documents etc.
1. For Figures, is there a way to scale to a proportion of the original
size? I would prefer to do this, instead of the other scaling options given,
because most of the figures are related to the same design metric. I would
prefer to do this from Lyx instead of hacking the LaTex output or scaling
the figure file itself.
2. I use European style paragraph indentation, but despite selecting this
in the document layout panel, Lyx always gives me American style
indentation. In particular, the paragraph after a figure should not be
indented, but Lyx always indents it. How can I really really enable European
indentation even when it already says it is enabled?
3. I have not found any documentation on how to do an Index. Can someone
either point me to existing documentation or describe how to do an index?
4. I have each chapter in a separate file. There are about 50 of these. I
wish to have one short "master file" which simply refers to each chapter
file. Then, one the rare occasions where one needs to typeset the whole
book, one simply processes the master file. Is there a way to do this in
Lyx?
Thank you.
