You mean in the Layout->Document dialog? So it does matter if you put the
letters in capital or not? The manual doesn't mention this...

You must be kidding me. It should be impossible for the user to crash a
program.
Btw, I've seen more crashes since my first mail. This time, the emergency
files were incomplete! I was lucky that I wasn't working on the chapters at
the end of my document so I could paste them in from older versions.

Well I think that's what the LyX-Code environment was made for. But this
requires manual action by the user to put the page breaks at the right point
which is completely contrary to the way LyX/LaTeX work.
Please note that I'm talking about the way LyX should be. I'm well aware that
it's unfinished work so it's OK if there are still some things that are not
ideal yet. And I think LyX is already a pretty good piece of software.
So I'm far away from saying LyX was bad, I'm just saying how it could be made
even better in my opinion.
