You can fix this problem by using Ctrl-Enter (explained in the User-Guide!)
This gives you a virtual higher cell and you can define if you want this
only on screen or also on the output (by using the table-layout-menu).

This is true, but also natural. If you decide that you want the table that
wide then LaTeX does not make it smaller. (This is also true for any program
working with tabulars only that they split it up into more pages which I
don't like that much, or you have to reduce them which makes them so small
that you cannot read them :)
