Rules are made for maximum compatibility. Not complying with the rules of
the internet you are risking packet rejections, no matter how convinced you
are that certain rules should be changed.

Imagine receiving email from all your Japanese or Chinese or Jewish friends
with their names in From: written using the true characters of their
language. Will your mutt/gnus be able to read them? Try:

㑺

If you cannot read it, do you know what character/font set you should
install? (No, you are *not* reading it right if you see ~ as the first
character.)

If it could, is it useful for you? Is it useful to you to see how I *truly*
write my name?

No matter how proud I am of my language, I still use English to write to
this list because I want to be understood.

It is another matter that an MTA should not concern itself with rfc822
issues, and hence it should not reject messages with "improper" From:
headers. These issues are better left to a the MUA.
