1.1.1 is a transitional release between 1.0.4 (rock-solid, probably what
you need to be running) and our stable-development series. There are a
number of major changes being undertaken in the transitional phase that
are likely to result in a few showstopping bugs being detected by users
instead of developers. This is unfortunate because there has been quite a
lot of testing done in the last few weeks to get 1.1.1 to a working state.

Once the transition is over (a couple more releases perhaps) the 1.1
series should be quite stable and will be in a state of continual
advancement. Note the word "advancement" and not "development."
Development will be occurring in branches of CVS and once the
feature/modification has proved stable it will merged into the main
releases.

You might like to look at a short blurb I've added to my LyX page
explaining some of what's happening:

        http://www.elec.uq.edu.au/~rae/LyX/

there's also a short note on www.lyx.org.

Other developers: You might like to take a look at this also and I think
we're really going to have to make a press release about this. In fact,
I'm inclinded to just merge my two paragraphs above with what I've already
written on my web page and release that. Comments?

For the crash you reported I think we already have a fix.
