  IIRC openjade is currently maintained so maybe you should report the error
there. They should know the reasons... And they probably would like to hear
user reports with different configurations, as yours.

  Just a wild shot, what make are you using?
  I remember some old problems with Sun make, but maybe I'm wrong. (possible :)

  In simples terms jade is the core engine to translate from docbook to the output 
format.~
So I guess that you don't want to exclude it from sgmltools...
