For me it works nice, but to obtain accented chars I use:
0. properly set X fonts and xmodmap
00. not using *.kmap -- I mean kmap set to default
1. document language set to polish
2. encoding set to latin2
3. in preamble entered:
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[latin2]{inputenc}
