| Hello,
| I know from the archive that it is a frequent problem but anyway, I
| couldn't solve it:
| In my keyboard map file I have
| \kmap "\\ss{}"
| in the hope to get the german sz ligature when typing the letter sz on
| my german keyboard (sorry, can't show it here). Sadly, this doesn't
| work; although the desired letter is shown in LyX itself, it produces an
| SS (yes, uppercase) instead of what I want in the dvi resp. ps output.
| In contrast, other definitions like
| \kmod ' acute aeiouAEIOU
| work as expected. I never encountered this when writing LaTeX files
| directly with the emacs. Maybe it is of interest that I have LyX v.1.0.4
| and my ~/.Xkeyboard defines
| keycode 20 = ssharp question backslash
| Having no idea, I have also tried
| \kmap ssharp "\\ss{}"
| but that was even worse, because it screwed up my s key.
|
| I would really appreciate if you could give me a hint and also sent a
| reply to me as direct email, as I am not subscribed to the list.

Try to set Layout->Document->Encoding to latin1.
