I unzipped the original documents that are found
under "help". I could read all the files when I
move them to c:\myfiles\lyx~1(.lyx)\lyxdocs
including the large files.
I copied these same files into the /doc directory
that normally holds these files, overwriting.
Now these same files would give the error
about 'tabular form <5 old version needed'
Though it seemed there was some effort to
open the file before quitting and exiting LyX.
So why does LyX open them in my Home dir
but not open them in the usual doc directory?
Anyway, this is good enough for me and I am
posting this for information purposes for others.
Best regards,
Stephen
