nesting

I want to nest something like

1. item 1
   (a) subitem a)
   (b) subitem c)
2. item 2
   (a) subitem a)
   (b) subitem c)
   and this is the script I would like to appear
   as it is shown here...

I tried to write the line after a M-Return and then insert items (a) and
(b), but LyX unnested it to an item with number 3.
