Some days ago I posted a note concerning Greek and Lyx. I received only
one answer, out out list, but my reply was returned as "unknown address".
I take the liberty to post my reply to the list, hoping the original
recipient will read it.

no shuddering... I am a Latinist!

My system is as follows: I use a Greek font for "sans serif" view on
screen; after finishing my work, I export the file as LaTeX file, I run
a program I am polishing, that changes all the "\textsf{here is greek}"
instances into "\foreignlanguage{greek}{here is greek}" (= the Babel
instruction for Greek text), making all the adaptations needed by
Babel. At this stage I still miss the diacritical marks for papyrology
and so on (half parenthesis etc.). The font I use is called "Achille",
and it works fine except the macron sign and the question mark do not
work under Linux -- they are ok under Windows, but they are using two
positions in the Ansi table that cannot be imported into Unix (don't
know why). So for the question mark I am using "@", and for the macron
I am using '=' before the vowel. At LaTeX stage, however, it's all OK.
The only nuisance it that you may never use sans serif; but for a
normal scholarly work this is not a real problem.
I think I'll need some time to finish the project. Would you like to
test the program as "beta tester"?

Next stage will be a conversion filter from LaTeX to the WinGreek table,
because in europe they normally ask you a Word file (= RTF).

thanks from italy,
guido
