I simply kept the old Styles in beamer-flex - however your approach is cleaner for creating new documents. There is an years-old feature request to allow auto-converting of Style to FlexInset via an ObsoletedBy keyword. It was, however deemed too exotic as this might easier be implemented via a lyx2lyx routine.
