I did not know there is an abstract.sty. I use the KOMA-Script classes for
all my documents and don't recall having this issue before now with a
report. But, yes, adding the abstract package does allow the word to appear.
My guess is that the document class you use just does not typeset the
abstract in the way that e.g. article does. I wonder if we should modify
the LyX layout to not show "Abstract", e.g. what we do with "title". I
don't know anything about this document class so hopefully someone else
knows whether this is expected.
Abstract displays in the list of environments and I assumed it would Just
Work(TM).
