I could imagine some kind of mathinset (the small insets within an formula)
that contains one of these new text insets an does not show up in ERT on
screen. When exported, it simply puts a \mbox{...} around its contents.

I have no idea what happens in the gui currently. I will happily provide
the necessary infrastructure in the mathed "core", but I won't touch menus,
toolbars and such things...
