Last July I set up a weekly cron job to update TexLive2023. It's worked
flawlessly until this morning when the attached mltex.log showed up in my
INBOX.
The mltex.log looks good, but what was not included in the log file but was
in the email message root sent me was the following:

I want to learn why the log file suggested the update completed without
error but fmtutil found errors running pdftex.
