Can somebody help me get around installation problems with the latest 1.1.6fix3
release on Linux Mandrake 7.2? I had version 1.1.6-1 running, but bugs forced
me to try and install a newer version.

When I try the binary rpm, I get "failed dependency: libforms.so.0.88 is
needed". I have installed the latest version of libforms, and even soft linked
0.88 to it. If I force the installation (rpm --nodeps) and then run lyx, I get
"symbol __vt_3ios has different size in shared object, consider relinking",
similar for symbols _7istream, _8ofstream, _7ostream and _8ifstream, and then
segmentation error and core dump.

If I try to install from the source rpm, the ./install-script runs fine, but
make soon stops with complaints about "no such file or directory" for the
following symbols: iosfwd, iostream, streambuf.h, vector, map, iterator,
utility, set, algorithm. I notice in the INSTALL file something about a need
for the latest c++ libraries, so I have tried to install whatever new versions
I could find: glibc, libgcc_s, libc, glibc-devel, glibc-common, libstdc++ and a
couple of others, but to no avail.

When I try to return to the old installation, the rpm installer complains about
missing xdvi and libstdc++.so.2.10. Needless to say, they are both installed as
far as I can see. Fortunately, forcing the installation with rpm --nodeps gets
me back to a working lyx (bugs and all).

Any help appreciated. The list server rejected my subscription (obviously it's
not my day!), so please copy any answer to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
