First create table float. Then create a tabular inside the the float. The put the cursor into the first row and first column of the table. Switch to your other application (such as text editor), copy the numerical data, switch back to lyx and press middle mouse button or select "paste external selection" from menu. This should give you a floating table containing your data. Alternatively first create tablular, then create a table float and finally cut-and-paste the tabular inside the float.
