It happens sometime for me too. Maybe you could try upgrading ghostscript. You sent the mail to lyx-announce mailing list, but for user problems you sould use the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list. Second, you attached well over 100 kilobyte JPEG image in your mail. I don't know what people think about attachments, but that was definitely way too big. Only sent attachments which are this big if requested. Second, compressing the figure with JPEG was a bad idea. GIF and especially PNG would probably have compressed it more, with much better image quality. And this is for everybody: if you are going to compress something with JPEG, think twice. JPEG is good for some photographs, if you don't want good quality, but very poor with computer-generated graphics like this. And I have noticed that even with some photographs I have to set the JPEG quality to maximum (from GIMP default 80) or else it will be too poor. JPEG is an old standard, and applying DCT to *blocks* is... well, not so great idea at least for higher compression ratios (if you care about image quality, what you _should_ if preparing a high quality article or something)
