More reading reveals: (Note to self: Read more carefully --
before posting next time.) If I create the purple equation box and
type \downarrow in it, automagically an down arrow appears, per
discussion in Section 5.1, Basic Math Editing, in the User Manual.

However, I still cannot find Mathed, nor MathPanel. Can someone
help me?

Subject: help me insert a "down arrow" and other math symbosl

Hi

I use Lyx a good bit, but I had not used the math formula stuff
before. I just realized that attempting to insert a math formula
from the Insert menu only puts a small purple box in the document
but that I do not seem to have access to the pieces I had in prior
versions. In the past clicking some place on the menus or on the
buttons -- I forget which -- got me just what I'm looking for.

Perusal of the manuals included with Lyx suggest that there is a
Math menu that provides a Math popup that makes these available.
I have seen this before, but I am unable to see a Math menu item
anywhere.

My system has Lyx version 1.1.6 fix 3, distributed with Debian 3.0
(Woody), circa Nov 2001, system not on net yet. If you need more
system data, please advise.

Please point me to the document, or web site where this and other
information may be found.
